Blue colour came from the stone Lapis lazuli 6,000 years ago, it was replaced by Egyptian blue 4,500 years ago. A blue pigment known as ‘ultramarine’ became very popular during the Italian Renaissance. Indigo became an important colour and dye in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Prussian blue is a hue of blue that emerged in Germany in the eighteenth century. In 1960, Yves Klein created his own version of blue pigment, known as International Klein Blue (IKB).
