Alf Jarnestad

Alf Roland Jarnestad (1923-2008) was a designer, visual artist and artisan, born in Kristianstad, Sweden. In 1946, Alf worked at Gustavsberg as a painting assistant for Stig Lindberg. During the period 1947-48 he studied at Berghs Reklamskola and at Konstfack in 1949.

After the few year he spent at Gustavsberg, he decided to move to Karlskrona where he worked as a designer for the Karlskrona Porcelain Factory. There he produced stoneware models such as Trossö, Alfa and Tivoli but also some strange objects that no one understood what they were supposed to represent, “mechanical and enigmatic objects” as they were called. Alf also designed logos and brand identities for several companies and associations.

In 1964 he married Gunnel and four years later in 1968, he left Karlskrona Porcelain Factory in order to establish in his own studio in Bubbetorp Lyckå outside Karlskrona where he worked until his death in 2008. His work is represented at the National Museum in Stockholm, the Swedish Arts Council and the Röhsska Konstslöjdmusee in Gothenburg.
