Bruno Gambone

Bruno Gambone was born in Vietri sul Mare, Salerno in 1936. He is an Italian ceramist and the son of Guido Gambone, one of the most prominent ceramists in Italy in the 1950s and 1960s. At the age of 14, Gambone decided to leave school and learn the craft of pottery in his father’s workshop in Florence. He was determined to make his own way and explored other artistic experiences, such as fabric decoration and painting on canvas. In 1959 he held his first exhibition of paintings in the La Strozzina Gallery in Florence.

In 1963 he moved to the United States and spent a few years in New York. He worked among artists like Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol, and gained much experience in the fields of painting, sculpture, cinema and theatre.

Five years later, he returned to Milan in Italy where he meets the artists Castellani, Fontana, Scheggi, Bonalumi and Colombo. After his father’s death in 1969, he returned to Florence to keep the ceramic studio running. Since then, in Florence, he has continued to work intensely, producing works of great interest. His ceramic pieces have become collectible works of art.
