Patrik Nordström

Patrick Nordström (1870-1929) was born in Höganäs in Sweden in 1870. He studied sculpture in Stockholm, moved to Copenhagen before accepting a position as a sculptor in Paris. During his stay his discovered the work of the french ceramist Jean Carriès, and visited “La Manufacture de Sèvres”. He came back to Denmark in 1900 where he established a workshop in Islev outside Copenhagen.

He worked for the Royal Porcelain Manufactory from 1912 to 1922 where he established its production of stoneware. He was renowned for his pioneering development of glazing techniques and his exploration of Asian forms and aesthetics. Nordström developed a number of complex glazes, largely contributing to the artistic and commercial successes of the company in the 1910s and 1920s.
