Nuutajärvi Notsjö

Nuutajärvi Notsjö was founded in 1793 in Urjala and is Finland’s oldest glassworks company. The original production was focused on window glass and bottles but was enlarged to include table wares and decorative objects in the mid-19th century.

Glass and ceramic designer Kaj Franck (1911–1989) served as artistic director at Nuutajärvi between 1951 and 1976, during which time design became a major export industry in Finland. Other renown artists such as Oiva Toikka, Heikki Orvola, Saara Hopea, and Runar Engblom worked for the company. Nuutajärvi merged with Iittala in 1988 and the production is currently marketed under the Iittala name.
