Oxblood

The “Oxblood” or “Sang de Boeuf” glaze is a deep red ceramic glaze that would have been developed in China during the 18th Century in an attempt to recover the lost “sacrificial red” glaze of the Xuande reign (1426–35) of the Ming dynasty. It belongs to a High-fired Color glaze technique called “Flambé” as we can found on Copper-Red Jun Ware of the Song Dynasty (960–1127 AD). Because of its very complex firing process, European potters were not able to master the technique until the late 19th century.
