Welcome in Mirmande

It all started a few years ago with a vase “Poule” found on a market somewhere in France, that day we fell in love and discovered the work of Jacques Ibarra.

How funny life is sometimes – this summer of 2022, filled with beautiful encounters and moments, took us on the road to Mirmande, Jeanine and Jacques’ adopted village. Over a cup of coffee, we had the chance to chat with the Ibarras and learn more about this generous couple and Jacques’ work.

Ibarra wants us to rediscover the world around us, see through his eyes and hands. Once you enter their gallery, look closely, you are being watched – the artist manages to turn chickens into lamps, television programmes into sculptures, fennels into vases and cats into a multitude of characters.

Last but not least Jacques loves the Italian way of life and he is not afraid to say it loud and clear. Grazie per questo momento!

Jacques and Jeanine met in Paris in the 1950s, they bought a house in the village of Mirmande which they renovated for over 5 years. In 1961, they finally completed the restoration of their house and established the family’s living space around Jacques’ workshop. Since the beginning, in addition to being a lovely woman, a wife and mother, Jeanine has had an encouraging and supportive role in Jacques’ life and work. She also acts as a link to the lovers of his work by running the gallery next to their house. If you are passing by, enjoy the walk and the visit!
